Join us at the Island Community House to watch and discuss a four-part documentary series Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. Travel around the world with author and National Geographic explorer Dan Buettner to discover five unique communities and investigate the diet and lifestyles behind longevity. After the program, discuss how we can implement small changes to our lifestyles to improve overall health and wellbeing.
In the third episode of a four part series, we travel to the tiny island Ikaria, Greece to discover the secrets of residents who live eight years longer than Americans, have half the rate of heart disease and almost no dementia.
People in two very different Blue Zones — the Greek island Ikaria and Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula — thrive thanks to their unique diets and traditions.
Dan Buettner, Blue Zones founder, is an explorer, National Geographic Fellow, award-winning journalist and producer, and New York Times bestselling author. He identified the five original blue zones–the places in the world with the healthiest, longest-living populations, including Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California.
